Within international road freight transport, there are different methods depending on the volume of cargo. The two most commonly used are FTL (Full Truck Load) y LTL (Less Than Truck Load).
In both FTL and LTL international transport, the most commonly used vehicle fleets are tautliner trailers, standard 13.6-meter tarpaulins, rigid trucks, and express vans and gondolas for special or high-volume transport.
International FTL transport
International FTL transport is used when the merchandise occupies most of the truck or the whole truck.
Advantages of FTL transport:
- Generally It's the fastest transport, since it goes directly without intermediate stops, allowing for faster delivery of goods.
- Greater security for merchandise: by not sharing the truck space with other goods, the customer can have total control over the contents of the load.
- Less handling of cargo: since it is a direct transport, there is no intermediate cargo handling along the route, thus minimizing the risk of damage and loss.
This type of transport is ideal for international industrial transport and bulky goods.
International LTL shipping
Unlike FTL transport, international LTL transport allows share space in the truck with other cargo.
The main advantages of this type of transport are:
- To be able to transport lower volume merchandise.
- Reduction of logistics costs, since sharing the truck makes the service much cheaper.
This type of transport is ideal for international pallet shipments, and companies that do not handle large volumes of merchandise.
